Guest Editor’s Picks: Mother’s Day Edition with Jessica Jann

What does being a mother mean to you?

Being a mother means putting my child first and foremost — supporting, protecting them and helping raise them to be a good person. It also really makes me cherish my grandma and mum even more. Some days are tough but most days are just perfect. Watching my daughter grow and change each and every day has been the biggest gift.

What does Mother’s Day mean to you?

I’m looking forward to it! I feel like Mother’s Day should happen every day [laughs], but it’s super nice to have a day to celebrate all the mothers around us. Whether they’re a grandma, mum, caregiver, aunty — just to say thank you, love them and to celebrate them!

2022 was your first Mother’s Day after having Kylie. How did you celebrate?

Last year was a bit different! It was still during a peak time for the pandemic in Hong Kong and my husband Kenneth was actually on a business trip, so he definitely owes me this year [laughs]. I celebrated with my in-laws and Kylie. It was actually really nice — we had lunch out and then did some shopping, and after I put Kylie to bed, we all went out for a nice dinner.

What are your favourite memories of Mother’s Day with your own mother?

I love celebrating together with my mum and grandma. Whether it’s going out for a nice meal or having dinner at home cooked by my sister and me, we always try to do something to say thank you and show our love a little bit! I remember one year, we went to Las Vegas — we watched shows, shopped and ate great food! Unfortunately, since I moved to Hong Kong- my mum and I didn’t get to celebrate Mother’s Day every year but I make sure to celebrate it with her when I see her.

How would you describe your style?

My style has changed since becoming a mum. I love easy, laid-back and simple  looks. Comfort is definitely key now, as I need to move around easily. I go from the play mat on the floor to jumping up quickly to grab something for my daughter or grab her — she’s walking now and very brave! When going out, I love flowy dresses, rompers and wearing colours.

How do you typically dress day-to-day when in ‘mum mode’? 

Now you’ll find me in a hoodie or sweater and leggings. I live in my leggings and workout clothes, and they must have pockets! I like to wear some small accessories like earrings, a small necklace and my engagement ring to dress up my mum mode look a bit. During spring and summer, I like wearing flowy dresses or a nice blouse over shorts, but since indoor places always have air-con, I always make sure to bring a thin jacket or scarf with me in my bag.

What's your favourite item from your Pacific Place picks, and why?

It has to be the ROTATE Sunday sweatshirt from Harvey Nichols! I live in oversized sweatshirts! I also really like the Bally Crystalia tote: I pack so many things now for myself and my daughter. This bag would be great to bring everything along in!
