Dog-Friendly Hikes

Violet Hill & The Twins 


If you and your fluffy BFF are looking for a proper workout, Violet Hill followed by The Twins is the name of the game. After a hike accompanied by beautiful valley views, you’ll finish in Stanley where you’d have earnt yourself a cold drink and dog treat. If you’re not sure your bud’s little legs can make it all the way, you could just do Violet Hill and finish in Repulse Bay.


Starting point: Violet Hill, Wong Nai Chung Reservoir

Distance: approx. 5 km


Aberdeen Country Park


This is a fairly easy hike, making it perfect for smaller pups. It’s easy to get to from most places on Hong Kong Island, it offers scenic views of the Aberdeen Reservoirs, and it has picnic areas that serve as a great rest stop for a few dog biscuits along the way. If you want to extend, you can head up towards The Peak.

Distance: approx. 4 km


Dragon’s Back


The classic Hong Kong hiking trail is beloved for being easy to get to and easy to finish, with a short trip to the beach after you’re off the trail. You and your dog will also love that the iconic trail also boasts views of Shek O and Big Wave Bay Beach.


Starting point: Shek O Road near To Tei Wan Village

Distance: approx. 8 km

Dog-Friendly Restaurants

You might already know about dog-friendly favourites such as Elephant Grounds and Blend & Grind, but here are a few lesser-known but equally pup-fantastic neighbourhood restaurants to consider.


Giando 


Tucked away in a quiet corner on Star Street, the outdoor tables at contemporary Italian favourite Giando is the perfect place to linger with your furry friend while dining on dishes such as lobster spaghetti and salt-baked sea bass.

Honbo — the creators of arguably the best classic American beef burger in Hong Kong — welcomes your pets warmly. Is there anything better than a Honbo 2.0 burger, cheese fries and a side of cute doggos?

You know and love Le Petit Saigon for being a perfect spot for a banh mi, a beer and a bit of people watching. You’ll also love it for the knowledge that pets are welcome too.

Tai Long Wan


Whether you hike in or take your pup on the speedboat from Sai Kung Pier, you’ll cherish a day trip to Tai Long Wan — arguably the most beautiful beach in Hong Kong. Bring a tent with you and you can even settle in for a night beneath the stars.

Tucked behind Shek O’s village houses is a long stretch of sand that’s become a dog haven on weekends. You can also make a stop at Ben’s Back Beach Bar for an icy cold beer.

Located in sleepy Mui Wo, Silvermine is a relaxed location for a weekend excursion. Let your pup run off some energy and then kick back at one of the many outdoor dining spots.

Tamar Dog Park


Head towards the Wan Chai end of Tamar Park and you’ll spot two pet gardens, both of which boast lush grassy patches large enough for a run around — a luxury for the urban surroundings of the area.

Cyberport Waterfront Park


It’s large, green and has ocean views — there’s nothing you and your pup won’t love about this park. It’s a social hangout that’s great place for your dog to make some friends.

At the spacious Belcher Bay harbourfront area is this new(ish) dog park with plenty of space to run around and make other four-legged friends.
