With travel well and truly back, Easter breaks are proving more popular than ever in 2023. And to make the most of your precious time away, we’ve chosen three easy destinations that all sit within a three-hour flight from Hong Kong, meaning you have even more time to kick back, relax and discover the unique people, places, activities and flavours that make them so special.

Bangkok, Thailand: True Wellness

The Thai capital may be known as a legendary party town with a brilliant range of dining options, but Bangkok is also famed around the world as a centre for wellness. It’s one of the centres of Thailand’s historical, holistic approach to health that combines science and medicine with traditional healing.

For the visitor, that translates to countless options to enjoy a range of Thai massage techniques and practitioners. At the Wat Pho Thai Traditional Massage School, experienced practitioners soothe and knead away any stress with oil massages, aromatherapy, reflexology and more. Nowhere is as experienced, as Wat Pho was a medicine centre for hundreds of years even before it was established as a temple in the seventh century.

But for a wellness journey like no other, RAKxa is a resort in southern Bangkok where programmes are personalised and guests reside in stunning villas amidst tropical greenery overlooking the Chao Phraya River. In consultation with doctors and wellness practitioners, programmes last from three to 14 night and combine cutting-edge technology with specific focuses such as mobility, immunity boosting, weight management and de-stressing.

Okinawa, Japan: Escape to Nature

The sun-kissed white sand beaches of Okinawa are an easy two-and-a-half-hour flight from Hong Kong, but the difference between the two destinations could hardly be more pronounced. Okinawa’s 160 islands offer stunning diversity, from the castles, cultural treasures, museums and temples of the main island through to world-class snorkelling and diving on some of Asia’s most celebrated reefs, with pristine waters and exotic sea life.

For those seeking adventure and escape, there's something for everyone. On beautiful Kume Island, visitors can dive with manta rays or swim with sea turtles, which for many are life-changing. The island's mountains can be hiked before you cool off by plunging into bubbling streams, while Kume’s wetlands provide another unique ecosystem for flora and fauna.

Back on the main island, don't miss the dramatic northern forests, as well as amazing landscapes of limestone rocks eroded over hundreds of millions of years. The subtropical Yambaru National Park is a remarkably diverse location where around half of all of Japan’s bird species can be seen in one destination. Your only challenge will be in deciding where to head next!

Hoi An, Vietnam: Food & Culture

The ancient maritime merchants’ town of Hoi An in central Vietnam has long drawn curious visitors; the once-sleepy port has become one of Southeast Asia’s most beloved locations, home to a compelling cultural escape that’s perfect for an easy long weekend.

Base yourself at the stunning Four Seasons The Nam Hai, which boasts a beautifully breezy beachside location but still sits just a short drive from the lantern-filled UNESCO World Heritage sites and legendary temples of this Vietnamese jewel.

For street food, of course it’s hard to beat a banh mi — one of Anthony Bourdain's favourites — and Hoi An features a number of locations where he enjoyed these world-famous sandwiches. For incredible local noodles, local specialty cao lầu features pork belly as the hero, while the thick noodles evoke udon. Crunch comes from rice crackers and fresh green herbs — and be sure not to miss a spoon of the sweet local chilli jam.
