Day in the Life: lululemon Brand & Community Manager

Have you ever looked up lululemon careers and spent a minute dreaming of working at one of the world’s most beloved brands? Anthea Look, Hong Kong-based Brand and Community Manager for athletic apparel retailer lululemon, has the job you want.

As part of our Day in the Life series, The Style Sheet followed Anthea around on one of her typical workdays to find out what her role in the marketing team looks like in 2021, and how she incorporates moments of mindfulness and wellness into her day.

Morning

‘I love practising gratitude right after I wake up to kick-start the day — to focus on one thing I’m grateful for. I follow that with some simple stretches to warm up my body, then make myself a cup of coffee. Making coffee every morning is my meditative moment — the aroma of the coffee calms and relaxes me, and gets me ready for the day. I work from home most of the time, so Align Pant is always part of my to-go outfit and keeps me feeling cosy all day. If I need to head to to the lululemon office that day, I opt for our On the Move collection, which is versatile for different occasions and perfect for travelling.’

Mid-Morning

‘My work mornings usually start with Zoom meetings, where I get to connect with various teams. Depending on the focus of the month, on some days I connect with our store community leads on brand campaign enrolment and on-ground community initiatives, and other days I’m in conversation with my counterparts from other regions where we exchange ideas and learn from each other. At other times I might be discussing social content creation approach and PR strategies with agencies.’

Lunch

‘Depending on my schedule that day, and if I have a packed day of meetings, I might stay home and order takeaway from my neighbourhood. Sometimes I use lunch as a time to meet new connections in the community or connect with other team members — and use it as an excuse to visit new cafes and restaurants in town!’

Afternoon

‘In the afternoon, I like to sit down for planning and strategising. When I’m in the headspace for idea generation, I love digging out insights on the market and ideating how to tell the one-of-a-kind brand values of lululemon. Sometimes I visit the stores, such as our store in Pacific Place, to chat with our educators and understand the latest happenings in our communities, and to get inspired by our products.’

Evening

‘After a day of work, I like going for a short run along the promenade near my home or attending an online yoga class from lululemon hub before enjoying dinner with my husband. My favourite “me time” is to light some scented candles with natural essential oils, watch Netflix and cross-stitch. I think it’s important to take care of our mental well-being by doing what we enjoy in life. I also try to check in with myself before bedtime, which is a good way to practice self-awareness.’
