Swire Properties’ annual large-scale charity initiative, “BOOKS FOR LOVE @ $10”, will launch its online book sale from 24 March to 14 April. More than 15,000 quality preloved children’s books will be on offer for pre-sale at HKD20 each (including administrative and handling fees).
Returning ahead of the physical book sale for the fifth consecutive year, the online charity presale will release selected children’s books in three batches over three weeks (24 March, 31 March and 7 April). Supporting this year’s mental wellness theme, volunteers have specially curated the inspiring “Character Education Collection”, while also bringing back the beloved “Fairytales Collection” and the ever‑popular “Transportation Collection” for young readers of different ages and interests.
The online charity sale platform supports multiple digital payment methods. Preordered books can be collected from Berkshire House at Taikoo Place during the in-person sale from 7 to 10 May and 14 to 17 May. Supporters are again encouraged to make additional donations to promote reading amongst youngsters. For every HKD20 donated, two quality children’s books will be gifted to children in need to help cultivate a love of reading from an early age.
This year, the event set a new record, with the collection of more than 320,000 preloved books. Thanks to the dedication of thousands of Swire Properties Community Ambassadors and volunteers who helped sort, code, photograph and upload the books, the event continues to give second-hand books a new lease of life while spreading the joy of reading across the community.
“BOOKS FOR LOVE @ $10” is sponsored by Swire Properties and co-organised by the Swire Properties Community Ambassador Programme, The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), and the Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS), and is running into its 14th year since its launch in 2009.
All proceeds from this year’s book sale will once again go to the “Treasure Trove” project led by BGCA, and AVS’ work to develop sustainable volunteerism. Last year’s event raised a record-breaking total of over HKD1.37 million.
