Stop into this hipster cafe for strong coffee, matcha lattes and ice-cream sandwiches. It also makes for a great brunch spot – the Avocado Toast with Poached Egg, Radish, Pea Cress, French Pea Pesto and Dill Yogurt, along with the Strawberry Nutella French Toast – made using house-baked bread and finished with fresh whip – are both worth sampling. The people watching is worthwhile too, so leave enough time for lingering. Or if you prefer to chill over a selection of teas and tea-infused desserts in a modern teahouse, try minimal-chic BASAO Tea in Moon Street.

Where to find a spot of culture …Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage & Arts

This massive independent art space in the heart of Central is the perfect spot for a cultural hit. The unique heritage site – once Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison – is Hong Kong’s’ largest conservation project to date, and plays home to a host curated world-class art exhibitions, a rotation of immersive programmes including performances and workshops, as well as daily tours exploring the site’s rich history.

Where to dine… Artemis & Apollo

One of Black Sheep group’s most recent dining concepts, Artemis & Apollo is getting plenty of buzz – and for good reason. The venue offers up a modern Greek taverna experience with a fresh take on Mediterranean cuisine and an unfussy menu including the likes of chicken souvlaki, mezze, grilled octopus and lamb chops. We’d recommend cracking up a bottle of the Gaia Rosé to go with your lingering meal. Oh, and the baklava is a must.

Where to unleash your inner tourist… Yau Ma Tei

Wander over to Kowloon’s dynamic Yau Ma Tei to walk the local streets (neon-lit markets and material-arts dens live here) and grab yourself a couple of artisan souvenirs while you’re at it. We recommend starting at 39 Battery Street, where you’ll find Mak Kam Sang – Hong Kong’s last minibus sign writer – selling hand-drawn, machine-printed plastic minibus signs. A short stroll away, duck into Sindart – a handcrafted embroidered slippers store which has been passed down by three-generations. Shopped out? Stop for a slice of cake and a spot of people watching at the nearby MUM’s NOT HOME – a quirky local art space, cafe and boutique.
