The striking interior and bold exterior presence of TMK Rap & Rolls is the first project completed by Pirata Group’s own design team. Celebrating the sound, culture and energy of the golden era of hip hop, the venue is packed to the absolute brim with design and material flourishes that reference this iconic period in music history. From the wall of forty vintage boomboxes and neon lights that greet guests upon arrival, through to custom-made illustrations of celebrated hip hop figures such as Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy and LL Cool J that adorn the walls based on original early 1980’s Bronx hip hop flyers, and the over five-hundred vintage and custom cassettes lining the sushi counter, the venue is a rich visual spectacle with the soundtrack to match. This eye-catching style is expressed further outdoors, where a mural installation by Elsa Jeandedieu Studio covers the restaurant exterior in 1980s rap lyrics alongside artwork made of The Notorious B.I.G. and Salt-N-Pepa.

A creative interpretation of iconic 1980’s hip hop and contemporary Japanese styles, TMK Rap & Rolls serves up a lip-smacking selection of temaki handrolls for sharing and individual enjoyment. Continuing the TMK tradition of taking the traditional Japanese temakeria experience in new directions, the new restaurant’s menus feature a multitude of meals with playfully named sections fitting the distinct hip hop theme. Dishes served at TMK Rap & Rolls for dinner include classic handrolls like the crispy Soft-Shell Crab (HKD68) and fresh Hamachi Tomato (HKD58), through to the creative “TMK All-Stars” such as the Tuna Hotdog (HKD98), Seared Scallop (HKD78) and Salmon Taco (HKD78) with rich yuzu mayo and buttery avocado tempura. Guests can then opt for the new, and exclusive to Wan Chai location Nori Bowls like the West Coast (HKD138) featuring marinated salmon, avocado and crackling tofu, to share, or go for the quintessential TMK experience with the “Fat Beats” Menu (HKD348pp) – allowing the Rap & Rolls team to take care of your table with a personal selection of the best recommended plates of the day.

Weekends at TMK Rap & Rolls are an appetizing multi-course affair with a Brunch Menu (HKD298pp) that features three starters all for sharing, a choice of Nori Bowls including the flavourful Katsu San or vegan Super Tofu before a selection of signature handrolls and dessert. Guests can also order items a la carte.

The TMK Rap & Rolls weekday lunch menu includes two course (HKD148pp) and three course (HKD168pp) variants, offering guests choices between four starters and five big Nori Bowls (rice, salad, or noodle-based bowls) before an optional dessert. Highlights include the mouth-watering B.I.G. with M7 Wagyu tartare and braised shiitake and the vegetarian Mo’ Money made featuring broccoli and shiitake on soba noodles, and the eye-catching new dessert Poppin’ Ice Cream– a soft serving of fresh-made vanilla ice cream with popcorn and olive oil –perfectly capping off the meal with a fresh, cooling taste.

Drinks continue to play an outsized social role in the TMK experience, with the brand’s signature “Drinks on Me” carrying over from the Sheung Wan venue to Wan Chai. Guests simply shout the celebrated phrase (HKD290 per round) to order a generous serving of sake for everyone in the restaurant to the sounds of boisterous applause and a banging of the gong by the TMK team.  The beverage menu at TMK Rap & Rolls features a selection of sake, Japanese highballs and draft beer served at the large central sake bar with a built-in beer tap. Serving sake in wooden Masu cups, guests can ‘kanpei’ the night away in the traditional Japanese way.
