Swire Properties is launching its “BOOKS FOR LOVE @$10” online charity sale from now until 31 March as a teaser to its in-person April book sale, which is a major cultural and community event in Hong Kong’s calendar.
Priced at HKD10 each, these pre-loved works can be purchased through a dedicated website (https://booksforlove.shoplineapp.com/), with the various sub-categories updated regularly so buyers can always browse the newest available wares.
Returning this year is the ‘Gift A Book’ Charity Vouchers campaign, which will again be part of the online sale. Customers can donate by purchasing HKD10 coupons that will be gifted to underprivileged students so they can choose items for free.
What’s more, the well-liked “Editors’ Top 10 Reading Surprise Pack” which is a 10-book bundle handpicked by organisers, will also return. For just HKD90, and featuring 10 themes, these book sets are a wonderful journey of discovery for young readers.
Shoppers can order and pay electronically on the website, and collect their books at Berkshire House, Taikoo Place between 20 to 23 and 27 to 30 April.
Over 250,000 books were collected during the month-long public drive. The eight-day in-person sale will be held at Taikoo Place from 20 to 23 and 27 to 30 April. All proceeds will go to the “Treasure Trove” project led by the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), and the Agency for Volunteer Service’s (AVS) work to develop sustainable volunteerism.
Sponsored by Swire Properties, “BOOKS FOR LOVE @ $10” is co-organised by the Swire Properties Community Ambassador programme, BGCA and AVS. Now in its 11th year, the programme raised over HKD1 million last year – breaking all previous records since its launch in 2009.
The entire initiative is planned and executed by a group of dedicated volunteers – from the book drive, to book sorting, information uploading and other processes. This support has been key to the project's success and a demonstration of the power of volunteerism.
