Guest Editor’s Picks: Valentine’s Day

For Valentine’s Day, we asked stylish Hong Kong couple Veronica Li and Lucas Cheung – the creators of Instagram account @holdonto_ – to curate their ultimate V-Day wish lists to give us some gift ideas. We also found out a little more about their own (pre-dating app) digital love story and Valentine’s Day traditions.

‘It sounds very cheesy, but I met Veronica after seeing her in my friend’s MSN profile picture; I was reconnecting with my secondary school friend 12 years ago and out of the blue I was looking at their profile picture and noticed her smile. Then I had the courage to ask my friend if we could go to the movies together – and took the opportunity to exchange contacts and asked her out,’ spills Lucas. Since then, spending 14 February with one another has become a ritual. ‘For Valentine’s Day, Lucas is super sweet to get the day off in advance so we can hang out all day. We like to spend the afternoon somewhere not in the city – whether it be a hike, Lamma or Macau. Japanese lunch and coffee date is always an option too. Once we got married and started living together, we also starting to have a mini romantic candlelit dinner at home instead of eating out, to avoid the pressure of ordering Valentine’s Day special menus. It’s pretty simple, but it’s about quality time,’ adds Veronica.
