Paul Thomas Anderson’s new flick Phantom Thread is another collaboration with Daniel Day-Lewis, who unfortunately says the film is his last. The work isn’t just a seductively captivating story of a British fashion designer trying to control love – it’s shaping our current mood when to comes to everything we want to wear right now. Set in 1950s post-war London, the film is filled with old-world inspiration – think deep, rich palettes of decadent velvets and silks, intricate embroidery and petticoats, sharp tailoring, dapper bow ties and voluminous trenches cinched tightly at the waist. It’s set to an evocative (and Oscar-nominated) score by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, and if you miss it at the cinema you can catch it soon at home! So you don’t need to wait to get into that elaborate mid-century vibe, here’s our pick of Phantom Thread style – with a modern update, of course.
